New Design, New Life

Well, that was a long wait!

Thanks everyone for your patience. Judging by my FeedBurner stats, no-one’s actually left, so I’m truly grateful for you all sticking around. It’s good to know that I’m not proving the universal law of blogs that the average reader of a blog is one, which includes the owner.

As you can see (or if you’re reading via RSS, have a look), I’ve been busy with a redesign of the site. I hope you like it.

More importantly, I’ve been busy writing, so we’ll finally start seeing new updates! I’m also trying to get my partner in crime, Warren, to contribute something more than just one story to the site (hint, hint; I know you can see this).

Anyway, thanks again. Oh, and if you spot something interesting, feel free to drop me a line at info[replace with an at sign]futurefragments.com.

Silence …

Written by on March 22, 2008 | Site Announcements

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I’ve been putting together the final touches to a short story. I have also been away on business for three weeks, and I’m now about to head off on holiday for three weeks. Will get back into more semi-regular postings when I get back in April. Hope everyone has a great Easter.

Site Announcment: Back In Action

Written by on May 31, 2007 | Site Announcements

Thanks for your patience everyone, and sorry for the (massive) delay in writing something new. There is, however, a good excuse. Aside from moving into a new house (and being without internet for a while), I had to invest quite a lot of time in writing a short story for the RSA‘s Ethical Futures competition (more info in PDF format here). If it doesn’t win, I’ll definitely post it up on the blog, and if it does win, well, I’ll probably try post it up anyway if I’m allowed to.

Also, behind the scenes of the site, we were getting swamped a bit with spam emails, which have now been dealt with thanks to Akismet. In addition to that minor irritant, I’ve been doing something far more important: thinking about how to boost the site a bit in order to provide more posts and information!

Writing coherent and enjoyable future fiction can be difficult to keep up on a day to day basis (or even just weekly), so I’ve decided to include a new section entitled “History Fragments“, which is essentially present day bits and pieces taken from history books in the future. You can see an example of what I’m talking about with the first post in this category entitled, “This Month In History, May 2007: Cyber Warfare and the End of Net Neutrality“.

Lastly, I would like to include a bit more personal stuff from me that is (to borrow from my old AD&D playing days) “Out of Character”, another new category that will contain just random thoughts and ideas. The aim here is to try and show a bit more of the inner workings of my brain (scary, I know), and to treat it as a type of personal writer’s journal. Hopefully some of you out there will be kind enough to help make suggestions on these ideas. These posts will be clearly marked as OOC, so feel free to ignore them if you like.

Thanks again for your time, support, and patience!

Site Announcement: Brief Hiatus

Written by on April 15, 2007 | Site Announcements

Don’t often write site announcements, but I just wanted to let all the visitors and subscribers know that there’s going to be a brief gap in stories appearing on the site over the next week or so as I am busy moving into my new house.

In the meantime, it would be great if we could hear from some of the readers out there. Drop me an email at info [at] futurefragments.com, or just write a comment on this post. I’m curious to know what you think about some of the stories that have been written, and the ideas that have been covered. Is there anything you would like to see more of? Criticisms? Compliments? Would you like to see more non-fiction stuff on the site like interesting news articles, or maybe ideas about story writing in general?

Whatever you’re thinking, let us know! Thanks for the continued support.
